Consulting VS. Design Contract

If you are a “do-it-yourselfer” and you are interested in working with Shawn Penoyer Interiors on a consulting basis only, then you should read this page. Shawn Penoyer Interiors will provide a “per-hour” consultation to assist you with making decisions that you will ultimately be responsible for in the end result.
A Consultant contract is much different than a design contract and you should know the difference so that you can make the best informed decision that best suits your needs and your budget. The hourly rate for consulting ranges from $75.00 to $150.00 per-hour depending on whether we are using a senior designer or a junior designer, and travel time to and from your location is invoiced as well. Interior Design Consulting is usually most beneficial when you have a small project that doesn’t require a large number of hours from start to finish in order to achieve your anticipated end result.

We do require payment in advance and your payment is non-refundable. You will be paying for our time, and it is up to you to make the best use of this time when you have us working with you. Consulting is very much akin to having an hourly employee and you are the boss… at the end of the work day, you must pay the employee for his or her time, whether you utilized their services or not, so preparation is paramount here.

Consulting may includes the following:

  • Color and Paint Selection
  • Fabric selection
  • Lighting options and Selection
  • Furniture advice that suits your needs and budget
  • Window Treatment Advice
  • Case goods
  • Home Staging Assistance
  • Accessorizing Advice

Consulting fees do not include any renderings or other services that are not directly included in your invoice. Although these services are available and we would advise you to use these services, they are not included in the consulting fee.

Be sure that you are making the best selection when choosing a consultant and we will do our best to advise you on what we feel will be the best method of choice for you and your project once we get started. Often if your project is substantial, it is more cost effective to simply hire a design firm to design the entire project rather than risk spending more on a consulting fee basis.

Please feel free to contact us and let us help you decide if consulting is your most advantageous scenario for your project.

We look forward to serving you!
